Imparare mentre si insegnaLearning while teaching

In recent years I have lived two parallel lives that have never met: on one side the musician, on the other the primary-school teacher. I do not regard this distance as a divide to be bridged. On the contrary, it is a separation I have chosen and wish to preserve.

This does not alter the fact that, at school, I realised how often music teaching is relegated to a position that it would be an understatement to call marginal. This is not due to a lack of interest, but to the fact that teachers are rarely given suitable materials and tools for building a course of musical learning to offer their classes.

As a musician, I would like to challenge the idea that one must be a musician to introduce a class to basic music education and preparatory musical work. On the contrary, it seems to me that one of the most fruitful principles of primary education is precisely the possibility of shared learning: the teacher learns alongside the pupils, guides the inquiry and shares its questions, curiosity and discoveries.

The aim, therefore, is neither to merge the two professions nor to turn teachers into musicians. It is to provide teachers with the conditions, materials and methods they need to act as guides: observing, asking questions and building a shared musical vocabulary with the class.

From this perspective, competence does not necessarily precede the encounter with music: it develops through practice, listening and attention to what happens within the group.

Strumenti e materialiTools and materials

The training provides practical tools, teaching materials and progressive step-by-step programmes that can be adapted to the pupils’ age and classroom context.

The activities explore listening, voice, rhythm, movement and invention. Complete materials are introduced and tested during the course, so that they can be understood and used with confidence.
